Joe Biden just can’t help but let his mouth run at the worst possible times – and it’s making a dangerous situation with Russia even worse.
Virtually everyone in America agrees that Vladimir Putin is a bad guy who shouldn’t have power.
The media narrative that nationalist right-wingers like Tucker Carlson “support Vladimir Putin” because they don’t want to get involved in a war is idiotic.
So when Joe Biden said “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power” about Putin, most people agreed with him in theory.
For example, it would be great if Russia suddenly decided to hold real democratic elections tomorrow, and the people of Russia all came together and elected a Jeffersonian libertarian to run their country.
But that isn’t going to happen. Putin is going to be in power for the foreseeable future.
And by running his mouth at a moment of serious international danger, Biden sent the message to the Russian regime that the U.S. is going to try to assassinate Putin like they did to Gaddafi in Libya.
And if there were ever something that would prompt Putin to actually use nuclear weapons, that would be it.
You see, foreign policy isn’t always about installing the rulers who you’d like to see in power.
If that were truly possible, that would be great. But it is not. U.S. power has limits, and in conducting foreign policy, American leaders have to sometimes deal with bad actors.
And the goal of those interactions should always be to minimize the threats, not to try to achieve some impossible utopia where every country on earth enjoys the same freedoms we do.
That day may eventually come years from now, but it has to happen organically. It can’t happen by force, otherwise you may end up making things even worse.
If there’s one thing the radical Left has taught us, it’s that trying to bring about a utopia by force can actually cause a dystopian nightmare.
The Left-wing activists who wanted to “defund the police” were probably imagining a world where everyone lived in harmony and tolerated one another, and police weren’t necessary.
That might be nice to dream about, but in the real world, there are burglars and rapists and murderers who need to be dealt with.
And in places like San Francisco, where they effectively defunded the police, the city turned into a nightmare virtually overnight.
Joe Biden may want to bring about his utopia, a world without any dictators like Vladimir Putin.
But if in the process of trying to make that happen, he helps bring about World War III, and millions of people die, was it really worth it?
