Democrats are plotting to make fundamental changes to American democracy.
Yet in the past, Kamala Harris had very different ideas.
Kamala Harris signed her name to a piece of paper that keeps her up at night.
Last Wednesday 48 Democrats voted to destroy the filibuster which has been part of the American government almost from the beginning.
The filibuster ensures that most of the time, getting bills passed by the Senate requires bipartisan support.
When Donald Trump was president and Republicans held control of the Senate, many of these same senators were ardent supporters of the filibuster.
In 2017 Vice President Kamala Harris and 26 of the same Democratic senators wrote to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell insisting that they wished “to preserve existing rules, practices, and traditions as they pertain to the right of Members to engage in extended debate on legislation” in order to ensure that the Senate “continues to serve as the world’s greatest deliberative body.”
The way Democrats completely switched positions in such a short time shows that the vast majority of them only care about the rules and traditions when they’re in their favor.
Harris blasted Republicans for using the filibuster in a speech on January 11th.
“Senate Republicans have exploited arcane rules to block” the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, Harris said at an Atlanta, Georgia rally.
The bills would give the federal government complete control over elections and demand unsafe voting practices like ballot harvesting, which make voter fraud easier.
Democrats failed to get a single Republican to vote for the bills.
“Nowhere does the Constitution give a minority the right to unilaterally block legislation,” she claimed. “Years from now our children and grandchildren, they will ask us about this moment. They will look back on this time, and they will ask us, not about how we felt. They will ask us what did we do? We cannot tell them that we let a Senate rule stand in the way of our most fundamental freedom.”
Every part of what Kamala Harris is claiming is completely ridiculous.
Historically the Senate was designed to be a check against the House because the Founding Fathers were concerned about what James Madison called “the tyranny of the majority.”
Basic safeguards against voter fraud do not take away anyone’s freedom to vote. It’s Harris and her Senate cronies who are bent on taking people’s freedom.
The Biden Administration worked hard to stop the unvaccinated from having the freedom to work.
There’s no consistent principle guiding Kamala Harris. She wants power and changes her position whenever it benefits her personally at the moment.
